ClayHouston Festival

Artist Information
All artists will display work inside the main galleries of the Houston Center for Contemporary Craft (HCCC – www.crafthouston.org) in individual spaces. The guest artists will exhibit select works in the hallway gallery adjacent to the group room, where they will either demonstrate their techniques or give slide presentations about their work.

Attendance and Publicity
Approximately 10,000 invitations will be mailed in addition to print and radio advertising. Posters and mailers will also be made available for artist's personal distribution. Last year's attendance was 3000 guests and over $50,000 in sales during the two day event.

Location
The main galleries inside the Houston Center for Contemporary Craft, 4848 Main St., Houston, TX.

Eligibility

The event is open to anyone whose primary medium is clay (functional or sculptural) and who lives within a 150 mile radius of Houston, Texas. Please note, this is not driving miles but actual physical miles. Please refer to the map below.

Sales
There will be a central colletion area where ClayHouston will collect all sales, including cash, check and credit cards. Artists will have a sales slip book provided to them with triplicate forms. These will be used to keep track of all sales, more information is provided in the registration packet and prior to the event. Artists retain all proceeds from their sales. Appropriate taxes will be collected and must be reported by the artists.

Juror
Dennis Smith has been Chairman of the Ceramic Department at the Southwest School of Art & Craft since 1976 and has taught as an adjunct faculty member at Trinity University, San Antonio Art Institute and San Antonio College. He received his B.F.A. from the Kansas City Art Institute in Kansas City, Missouri and his M.F.A. from the University of Montana, Missoula.  He has been published in Ceramics Monthly and Clay Times, both as a featured artist as well as an author. His work has been shown extensively throughout the United States in invitational and juried exhibitions. His work may be seen at Goldesberry Gallery, Houston, TX.

Awards
Awards will be presented during the show for Best Booth Display, Best Sculptor and Best Potter.

Set-up
Artists may set up their work on Friday, June 22nd from 12 noon until 5pm. Volunteers will be on hand to assist with set up. Artists can again set up on Saturday, June 23rd from 7am until 9am.

Friday, June 22 Noon – 5 pm Setup
Saturday, June 23 7 am – 9 am Setup
  10 am – 5 pm Show
Sunday, June 24 10 am – 5 pm Show
Sunday, June 24 5 pm – 7 pm Take-down
