About ClayHouston
Since November 2005, over 100 Southeast Texas ceramic artists have come together in bi-monthly public meetings and an online forum to share ideas and information.
If you would like to join ClayHouston, please download our membership form and return with your dues.
1. Public Meetings are held every other month – usually the 3rd Thursday of the month at 6pm and usually at the Houston Center for Contemporary Craft. 4848 Main St. , Houston , TX . Guest speakers are often invited to these meetings. Piero Fenci of Stephen F. Austin University and Nick de Vries, Professor of Art, University of Houston, Clear Lake presented slides of their work in the past. We have also had memeber 'slide slams' where everyone gets a chance to show off their work. View details about the next meeting.

Our public meetings have also featured photographer Jack Zilker (above right) who demonstrated techniques for taking photos of ones work.
2. Workshops - Last year we hosted a Robin Hopper Workshop – “Decoration, Design, Surface Enrichment” October 4 - 5, 2006 Houston Center for Contemporary Craft, Co-Sponsored by The Salt Grass Potters and the Houston Potters Guild. We hope to make events like this an annual occurence.
3. ClayHouston – June 23-24, 2007 (at the Houston Center for Contemporary Craft) Clay Houston Festival is a public, two-day event featuring studio potters, sculptors, educators and students, offering a fun, broad view of the clay arts experience including work for purchase, demonstrations, hands on experiences for the public, and slide lectures/presentations.
4. Communication – We have created a free online discussion forum with Yahoo Groups where people can share questions and ideas or post events on a group calendar (calls for entry to shows/festivals or upcoming exhibits). There are folders for posting photos of your work and links to websites. To view the group, go to http://groups.yahoo.com/group/houclayfest/.
To join, contact info@clayhouston.com and you will be sent an invitation. You will need to register for a free yahoo account, but once done, you can subscribe to message posting in our group and receive them via email. |
